Elementary Curriculum

The Elementary School Age program involves Grades K through 5. Children entering Kindergarten must be 5 on or before September 1. Children entering first grade must have completed Kindergarten and must be 6 by September 1st. Our curriculum for grades K through 5 includes religion, math, language arts (reading, spelling, language, writing), science, social studies, health and fitness, art, music, and computer. The amount of time spent on each of these areas varies with the age group. Kindergarten, grades 1 and 2 spend a great deal of time in language arts or learning to read. It is not our expectation that all Kindergarten students can read. They have direct reading instruction, but some may not be developmentally ready for reading . Those that are able to read will be provided opportunities for growth. Grades 3 through 5 balance the time more evenly in all areas as they read to learn.

A computer curriculum focuses on using the computer as a tool and is offered to students in grades K through 8. Classes will be offered on a weekly basis in 40 minute periods. Students will have 7 - five week units that will teach them computer skills in the following areas: word processing, data base, spread sheets, desktop publishing, robotics, using the internet, power point and more.

In addition to our regular curriculum students participate in field trips and assemblies. Grades 4 and 5 are given the opportunity to  join the band program. A choir experience is available to grades 1-5. Various other programs such as conflict resolution, drug awareness, making friends, etc. are provided by the school counselor.

St. Paul's Lutheran School provides classes in grades 1-5 with a maximum of 25 students per grade.*

Each Kindergarten class has a full time classroom assistant. The 1st grade class shares a part time classroom assistant with the 2nd grade.  There are no classroom assistants in grades 2-5.

The class hours for grades K-3 are 8 AM to 3 PM. The class hours for grades 4-5 are 8:15 AM to 3:10 PM.

* Class size may be exceeded if all State Regulations are met.
