There are many ways to share your musical gifts at St. Paul's. They include:
10:30 Praise Team
This talented group of musicians and singers leads the contemporary style worship on a weekly basis throughout the year. Practices are on Thursdays from 7:30-9pm and from 9:30-10:10am on Sunday prior to the service in the sanctuary. People involved in this ministry usually sing or play 1-2 times per month and many people do both or can play multiple instruments. Some experience reading music is required for instrumentalists and singers should be able to learn melodies and harmonies independently either from sheet music or a recording.
8am Spirit Choir
A traditional choral ensemble that sings a variety of musical styles from Labor day to Pentecost. We hold a weekly choral rehearsal on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30pm in the sanctuary and sing the anthem every other Sunday for the 8am traditional service. Music reading is not required, though instruction in this area will be provided. Favorite composers include contemporary artists such as Dan Forrest, Mark Hayes and Donald Moore as well as traditional favorites such as Haydn, Mozart and Bach. We also enjoy singing spirituals and music from around the world.
Winter and Spring Cantata
Combining the talents of the 10:30 Praise Team and the Spirit Choir, we present a cantata during Advent and Palm Sunday accompanied by a chamber ensemble. This is a great way to get involved if you played in the orchestra/band in high school or college or of you are a singer unable to make the weekly commitment to Spirit Choir. We usually hold five rehearsals prior to singing during both the 8am and 10:30 services on one Sunday.
Play a brass instrument? We can put your talents to use. The brass ministry plays four times a year on Reformation Sunday, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas and Easter supporting the hymns of the traditional service and playing the occasional prelude or postlude. We usually schedule one rehearsal prior to each event. Music reading is mandatory.
Youth Praise Team
The Youth Praise Team is focused on developing instrumental and vocal confidence for leading contemporary worship. No experience is necessary, and students between 6th and 12th grade are welcome.
Solos are always welcome and can be arranged by contacting Aaron.
